Extracurricular Activities
Website Founder
Gastrointestinal Nutrition Therapy
Website creator/founder of Gastrointestinal Nutrition Therapy. I initiated this project during a web development course. I decided to create a site with the intent to share nutritional therapy of gastrointestinal disorders, with the hope of creating a larger business model that includes consultations and interaction with clients. I am using my current titles of dietitian and MD to manage the site. The website is a work in progress since its initiation, with plans to add projects, presentations, and further blogs as time allows. It currently has a professional profile, a more complete CV, a few presentations, and some nutritional blog posts. https://www.ginutritiontherapy.com
Most Meaningful Experience
This site/business idea means a lot to me as it helps me organize my entire educational career and apply it to what I hope will be a big part of my future business and professional endeavors, to continue promoting wellness in those interested in nutrition interventions for their chronic diseases.
Jun. 2023 - Current
Quality Improvement Coordinator
Utah State University
During my 4th year of medical school, I also matriculated in a Master's of Dietetics Administration. As part of the final project for my master's degree, I created a quality improvement initiative to improve malnutrition diagnoses after a discussion with the clinical nutrition director at Howard University Hospital. Leading this required creating educational materials, coordinating across subspecialties within the hospital, and working with hospital administrators to obtain approval for implementation. Data was obtained at the beginning and end to help determine the efficacy of the project. A minor improvement was noted in the malnutrition diagnosis after a few months, with uncertain significance.
Most Meaningful Experience
This experience taught me about the importance and sometimes difficulty of working with administrators for project approval. More importantly, it highlighted the value of interdisciplinary communication in improving patient outcomes and deepened my appreciation for quality improvement.
